What is Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation?
Non-surgical lip augmentation is a simple but delicate procedure done to enhance the size, shape, contours, and appearance of the lips. Dermal fillers usually of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid are carefully injected into the lips to improve their size and shape. Fillers can be injected with such accuracy that minute adjustments can be made to make your lips look exactly as you’d like them to.

The Procedure
Lip augmentation begins with a private consultation with Dr Schaefer so she has the opportunity to understand what sort of look you’re aiming for and what your goals are for the procedure. She will work closely with you to map out a simple treatment plan that accomplishes those goals for you, including what injectable to use, how much of it, and where.
Then the fun begins. Dermal fillers include Lidocaine, a pain-relieving anesthetic, that makes the procedure less painful. Also a vibratory stimulation device that distracts from the discomfort can be used. Dr Schaefer is one of the few doctors in Hawaii trained in the use of a blunt micro cannula to inject dermal fillers which both minimizes bruising and decreases the chance of inadvertent intravascular injections.
Dr Schaefer will carefully place the filler in the areas of your lips that need it most in order to reach your desired look, shape, and style. The Cupid’s bow can be accentuated nicely and the vermillion border can be made nicely defined, and other fine details of the lips can be perfected to your liking.
Recovery
There isn’t necessarily a recovery downtime period after non-surgical lip augmentation, though you will likely experience some swelling, redness, lumps, and discomfort for several hours to a few days. These side effects go away on their own and for many patients, they are almost unnoticeable.
Results
You will see the first initial positive results of your non-surgical lip augmentation immediately after treatment. As the injectable softens and settles into your lips, and as the swelling subsides, more and more of your final results will become apparent and by two weeks out from the procedure, your lips should be looking incredible.
Getting The Best Results With Lip Fillers
Some simple tips will help you get the best possible results from your lip fillers:
If you have a "bump" on the inside of your lip you can gently move your tongue across it to smooth it or you can massage it with your fingers. You should wait at least 6 weeks before getting filler reversal to treat it.
Apply an ice pack or covered ice cubes to your lips right after the procedure if they are painful.
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and direct sunlight for 2 days after treatment.
Plan your lip augmentation a few weeks to a month before an event or special occasion.
If you have a history of cold sores let Dr Schaefer know and she will prescribe some prophylactic medication to prevent a flare.

Dr Schaefer is fantastic. She was very gentle I hardly felt a thing and I had great results. Her prices were so good that in addition to my usual Botox I decided to have her give me some filler as well. I am very pleased with the results. I have gotten lots of complements on how great my lips look, kind of a subtle fullness, not overdone duck lips like I have seen from some other plastic surgeons. I had some frown lines coming down from the corners of my mouth and the filler made those much less noticeable. I cant recommend Dr Schaefer enough, you will get a great deal and great results.
